Terms of use

Short and clear: what applies to you and to us when you use Airport Detective.

Last updated: October 2026

Who provides the app?

Airport Detective is a game by benaapps (M. Bena, private individual), 8405 Winterthur, Switzerland.
Email: info@benaapps.com
Airport Detective is an independent game and has no connection to the airports and airfields in the app.

What it’s about

You look for airports and airfields, photograph them from public ground, collect points and badges and compete with others. The app is for playing and discovering, not for traffic or navigation purposes.

Rules at the airport

A photo from public ground is enough. The game never asks you to enter an airfield, a restricted area or a terminal.

  • Finds from public ground only: access road, car park, in front of the terminal, public viewing terrace.
  • Never enter the airfield, runway, taxiway, apron or a restricted area. Do not climb fences or go around barriers.
  • Grass runways at small airfields are often unfenced. Never cross a runway, even if nothing is flying.
  • Never with a drone. Do not point lasers or strong lamps at aircraft.
  • Do not photograph security checks, border control or staff. Where signs or staff forbid photography, the ban applies, even if no find is then possible.
  • Photos taken from an aircraft, from the apron or from behind the security check do not count.
  • Never stop on a motorway or hard shoulder. Do not obstruct access roads, stops, entrances, emergency routes or queues.
  • Military airfields are not part of the game: do not go there and do not photograph them. In some countries, photography at airports is sensitive or prohibited. Check the local rules first.

Rules for everyone

Laws, traffic rules, house rules and instructions from the police, staff or those in charge always come before the game. No photo, point or rank justifies a risk.

In particular, you must not:

  • put yourself or others at risk, including through distraction while walking or standing;
  • obstruct traffic, pedestrians, cyclists, emergency services or public transport;
  • stop on pedestrian crossings, cycle paths, roads, entrances or exits to take photos;
  • take photos or use the app at the wheel, on the handlebars or as a passenger in a moving vehicle;
  • stop just for a photo where stopping or parking is prohibited;
  • enter private property, closed-off areas, construction sites, railway or military installations;
  • climb over fences, barriers or walls;
  • take photos where photography is prohibited, or photograph security, surveillance or military installations;
  • take recognisable photos of people without their consent, especially children;
  • upload nude images or sexual, violent, insulting, racist, discriminatory or otherwise unlawful or offensive content;
  • use photos you have no rights to;
  • play in traffic under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication that reduces your reactions;
  • take risks in darkness, on ice or snow, in storms or floods to log a find;
  • encourage other players to behave in this way or put pressure on them;
  • harass or follow people or try to find out where they are.

Airports in the app

A airport being in the app does not mean that it exists, is open, accessible or safe, or that access is allowed. The data comes from open sources and may be wrong. You check for yourself on site.

Children and young people

Under 16 only with the consent of their parents, who also go through the rules with them. They supervise the use themselves.

Your photos and content

  • You only upload photos you took yourself or have the rights to.
  • No people or number plates should be recognisable. Photograph the airport from public ground, not people.
  • No offensive, unlawful or third-party content, including in names, profile pictures or feedback.
  • You allow us to show your photo and your detective name in the app, as described in the privacy policy. The rights to your photo remain yours.
  • Other players can report content.

Play fair

Play honestly: finds count only if you really were at the airport. No cheating with fake locations, other people’s or saved photos, multiple accounts or automated tools. Anyone who cheats loses points or their account.

Availability

We do our best to keep the app running but cannot guarantee it. The app, the airport data (from OpenStreetMap), maps, points and leaderboards are provided without warranty and may contain errors. We may change, interrupt or discontinue the app.

Your own responsibility and liability

  • You use the app voluntarily and at your own risk. You alone decide whether, when and how you visit an airport.
  • You are responsible for your own behaviour, your vehicles, fines, parking fees, travel tickets, admission and mobile costs.
  • To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for direct or indirect damage arising from the use of the app, in particular for accidents, injuries, death, property damage, fines, bans from premises, data loss or damage caused by incorrect, outdated or missing data.
  • We are not liable for the actions of other players or for linked or embedded third-party content.
  • If you break these rules and a claim is made against us as a result, you indemnify us to the extent permitted by law.
  • Mandatory liability remains unaffected, in particular for intent and gross negligence and under product liability law.
  • We may remove content, withdraw points and block or delete accounts if these rules are broken or there is a risk, without any right to compensation.
  • The game does not ask anyone to take risks. Points and ranks have no monetary value.

Privacy

What data we need and how you delete it is explained in the privacy policy.

Changes

We may adapt these terms, for example when the app changes. For significant changes, we will ask you again in the app. The date above shows the current version.

Law and jurisdiction

Swiss law applies. The place of jurisdiction is Winterthur, unless the law mandatorily prescribes another.
